Compare pickup locations, equipment packages, helmets and return arrangements before choosing your ski-day plan.

The practical choice: Heidi’s offers pickup along Highway 108 in Cold Springs; Dodge Ridge offers pickup at the mountain. Compare the complete package and return arrangements, rather than deciding on the advertised daily price alone.

When Highway 108 pickup may fit your trip
Heidi’s location may fit a eastbound trip toward the mountain when you are already driving through Cold Springs. The tradeoff is transporting the equipment and arranging a separate return stop. Check your actual route from your lodging: being nearby does not mean the shop is on every visitor’s morning route.
Ask about opening time, fitting time and whether any previous-evening pickup is offered. We have not verified that service. Do not assume the posted holiday-hours block applies to your winter dates: it does not identify a year.
When pickup at Dodge Ridge may fit your trip
Resort pickup keeps your rental process at the mountain and may simplify coordinating a lesson. It still requires time for parking, fitting and check-in. The resort says online purchasers can go to the Rental Center with valid lift access; onsite purchasers start at Guest Services in the Helm Family Lodge before collecting gear. Verify current instructions in your confirmation.
If you are booking a lesson, read its equipment inclusions first. Buying a second rental package can duplicate gear already included in the selected lesson product. Rental-only equipment does not automatically include lift access.
Compare the whole cost, not just the daily rate
For a family, list each person’s equipment charge, helmet needs and any ticket or lesson purchase. Add taxes and any selected protection or extra-day costs where applicable. A $40 posted rental is not comparable with another package until you know the inclusions.
Heidi’s published terms say payment is due at rental and nonrefundable, and describe a physical card or ID deposit requirement. Ask the shop to confirm current terms before leaving a deposit. Review the resort’s selected product terms separately; do not assume the two providers share a cancellation policy.
Heidi’s or Dodge Ridge: which rental plan fits you?
Choose your pickup location around the day you want to have. A Highway 108 shop stop can fit a trip that passes through Cold Springs; mountain pickup can fit a plan centered on the resort. Neither choice removes the need for fitting time, so leave room in your schedule before a lesson or your first run.
For families renting several sets of equipment
Make one list for your group: each person’s age, height, weight, shoe size and ski or snowboard preference. Then compare complete packages for everyone. Include helmet arrangements and check that the equipment sizes you need are available. A convenient pickup plan is one that also works when tired children are ready to head home.
For first-time skiers and snowboarders
Start with your lesson booking. Check whether it already includes equipment, a helmet and the lift access you need, then arrange any remaining rentals. Ask where to check in and how much time to allow for fitting. Bring your own winter clothing, gloves and goggles; an equipment package is not a complete outfit.
For visitors staying in Pinecrest or Strawberry
Map the drive from your accommodation to both pickup options. Compare the full route—lodging to rental pickup, pickup to Dodge Ridge, and the return stop after skiing. A shop on your arrival route may require a different trip on your ski morning. For a multi-day stay, ask whether you keep the gear overnight and when the final return is due.
Plan your ski day in three steps
- Choose your mountain day. Check Dodge Ridge operations, lesson availability and the lift ticket you need before arranging equipment.
- Match the rental to your itinerary. Confirm package contents, fitting arrangements and pickup instructions with your chosen provider.
- Plan the end of the day. Know where the gear goes back and allow time to return it before your drive home or dinner.
A practical morning checklist
- Confirm which equipment your lesson or booking already includes.
- Have the fitter’s requested height, weight and shoe-size information ready.
- Check helmet arrangements for every member of your group.
- Match pickup and fitting to lesson check-in; ask for a recommended arrival time.
- Confirm the return deadline before heading to the lifts.
- Recheck mountain operation and current road conditions before departure.
Questions visitors ask
Which option is cheaper?
We cannot make a current price ranking: Heidi’s rates are published but not season-confirmed, and Dodge Ridge’s overview currently lists TBD prices. Compare current quotes for the same equipment, duration and helmet needs.
Can children rent equipment?
Both publish child equipment options. Confirm sizes and age definitions. Dodge Ridge lists youth packages for ages 12 and under and says equipment sizing is available for children as young as two; that does not establish lesson eligibility or fit for every child.
Can I rent only boots or demo skis?
Dodge Ridge lists boots-only and demo-ski products. Its demo skis exclude boots. Ask the shop about compatibility and fitting requirements; do not assume any boot works with any ski binding.
Is Heidi’s service better or faster?
We have no firsthand test or verified comparative waiting-time data, so we do not rank service quality or speed. Call about your date and compare the pickup process.
